Out and about by bike
What's it all about?
Cycling is the passion now... used to be motorcycles but now it's all about legs and pedals. I have been back on pushbikes as we call them here in good old Blightey for about six years now thanks to a minor epiphany when living and working just outside of Chicago. A bit of encouragement from the chief gardener and some Dollars later I was riding regularly (though not commuting) and even did a couple of MS150 charity rides. Fitness levels went up, weight went down - and all with advancing age! I turned the big Five-Oh whilst out there and have now been back in the UK for three years to date.
Anyway, I digress... back home now and the proud owner of a carbon racer and a recently purchased steel tourer. This site is hopefully going to be based mainly on the touring aspect of my cycling and the big plan this year (2012) is to complete a double coast to coast - C2C Whitehaven to Sunderland and then return on the Hadrian's wall route or maybe the Reivers. This to be done in July if all goes to plan.
So... apart from commuting 8.5 miles each way to work and back, not much training this early in the year - it's March 2nd. But... weather should be improving, nights are drawing out, clocks go forward at the end of the month and there are no excuses!
Some notes on the planning, maybe some mileages and records of weekend rides with the local CTC will ultimately be logged here. No promises yet but it might eventually turn into a proper blog complete with photos and notes etc...
Hope to be back soon with more useful content.
